Two studies were conducted to find out the needs of the Florencia community in the Colombian region of Caldas.
Results showed that one big problem was coffee workers’ housing conditions. Also, an environmental impact study concluded that there was a sewage water issue.
For all these reasons, a water source protection project was developed. Septic tanks, sinks and bathrooms are being built for the producers and their families, by doing this we prevent that sewage waters be thrown into rivers and provide basic water infrastructure for sanitation to coffee farmers. Not only does this project protect water sources but also provides a hygiene environment for the farmers in their homes.
