El Salvador is the smallest central American country; however, it is not one of the safest. School drop-out is a main problem in this coffee plantation community because of security issues. Parents are afraid to send their children to school due to previous trespassing and robberies. This project’s main objective was to improve the safety conditions of the school and to give the students and teacher a safe learning environment.
From the first steps a fence was built around the school protecting the school area. But now the project has grown, and this year was able to implement a new septic system, sanitary stations, tank for rainwater capture and installation of a water tower. These installations not only give the kids and teachers a more hygiene environment but also have impact on the environment reducing water usage and making water treatment possible. Thanks to all these changes, kids enrollment has increased 45% since the program initiated.
